Rocky Horror Domains in Demand

April 29th, 2003
By Jim "Cosmo" Hetzer

Anyone who follows the Internet knows that a good domain name is extremely valuable. Some people would pay thousands if not millions for a good name. Proof of that can be seen by clicking over to any domain name auction site and you will see people paying thru the nose for a choice name that hopefully will catch someone’s eye. Everyone wants a good name because no one wants to be stuck with e-joesmith-site.cc or even worse .ws. Alot of times it comes down to who was there first. I've never owned a delta faucet but I went to delta.com dozens of times forgetting that years ago Delta Airlines was flydelta.com.

Recently people have been finding Rocky Horror related domain names valuable because of their high traffic and visibility. The minute these become available they jump faster than Pat Quinn to an open bar.

On the side of the buyers I can see where once a domain expires it's open season. I don't find anything wrong with that as long as you are going to use it for a website appropriate to the name. To me that is fair. I don't agree with buying it then offering to sell it back to the previous owner for an enormous price. Don't get me wrong, I am waiting for someone to make me an offer on fuckyoutoo.com, but when I had three prime Hedwig domains I offered them to other Hedwig sites for the cost of transfer.

Usually once someone lets it expire chances are they didn't want it anyway. Most ISP's send out 3 or 4 emails saying "DOMAIN EXPIRING SOON" But there is the off chance where they don't have that 'contact' email address anymore or they don't have the renewal money or they just forget. And the name inadvertently slips by unnoticed to them. But not to the vulchers, they are always there watching.

Recently some Rocky related domains were bought within a few days or even within hours of them expiring. thinking that people who frequently visit that page will be interested in the new content (usually a porn site) while their is another practice of buying similar names trying to catch someone by mistake.

completelycrazy.org expired and was bought up. And they even kept the content
from the previous site. When contacted, the new owners offered to sell it back for
hundreds of dollars. Then it was turned into a porn site within days.
rhps.com is on the auction block for a minimum of $668 and maximum of $10,000.
shocktreatment.com is owned by buy-domains.com for sale for an
 undisclosed price.
rockyradio.org expired and within days it became a porn site with the hefty price
  of $1500.
 rockyradio.net was a porn site.
rockyhorror.me.uk is for sale in U.K.
rockyradio.com is an ads site. I was told it was bought specifically for the
 rockyradio.org mistypes.

There are more that are similar to a Rocky related website name but I am not going to give them the click by visiting the site to see if it's still there. There are also the Rocky related domain names that are bought and still awaiting content;

 rockyhorror.biz
 rockyhorror.us
 rockyhorror.nl

So where are all the good Rocky Horror related domain names? Good question. Most good Rocky Horror related domain names are taken but there is a few good ones left. In fact, recently The Rocky Horror Preservation Foundation has released some of it's domain names. Note: We are not selling these domain names. They have been released back to the public they will cost different prices depending on what registrar you go to. For information on available Rocky related domain names please contact us for a list.
